Width and rigidity. A wide stance resists the rifle rolling under recoil, and a stiff, play-free leg assembly means it returns to the same point of aim shot after shot. Sled or ski feet let a heavy rifle track straight back on a mat or bench instead of hopping, which is what makes the shot-to-shot return repeatable.
Are these bipods allowed in competition?
F/TR is shot from a bipod or a sling, while F-Open normally uses a front rest. Rules on dimensions and design vary between governing bodies and between clubs, so check the conditions of the competition you intend to shoot before you commit to a particular bipod.
Picatinny or Arca-Spec?
Most of these models come in both. Arca-Spec lets you slide the bipod fore and aft to balance a heavy rifle, which is worth having on the line; Picatinny is simpler and fits whatever rail is already on the forend.
