Frequently Asked Questions
Lumens or candela?
Lumens measure total output, which lights a wide area; candela measures peak intensity, which is what throws a beam down a field. For lamping at distance, candela is the figure to read — the output and throw chart puts real numbers against both.
What suits lamping foxes?
A rifle-mounted lamp of 25,000 candela or more, ideally with a remote pressure switch so you are not reaching forward for the tailcap. Our highest-throw models run to 100,000 candela.
Do any of these do infrared?
A few. The Streamlight TLR-VIR II and the ProTac Rail Mount VIR Pro carry an IR illuminator alongside the white light, for use with a night vision device you already own. We do not stock night vision or thermal units themselves — see our article on where they stand in the UK.
