Description

The Leupold BX-5 Santiam HD 15x56 Binoculars, part number 172457, are a full-size open-bridge magnesium roof prism binocular delivering 15x magnification on 56mm objectives, with a field of view of 77 m at 1,000 m (231 ft at 1,000 yds) and 18 mm of eye relief, at 1,276 g (45 oz).

Behind the 56mm objectives sit phase-coated BaK4 roof prisms and Leupold's Professional-Grade Optical System, with DiamondCoat 2 on the exterior lens surfaces and the Guard-ion hydrophobic coating that sheds rain and fingerprints. The open-bridge magnesium chassis is rubber-armoured and 100% waterproof and fog-proof, focuses down to 3.0 m (9.8 ft), adjusts from 56–74 mm between the eyes, and carries twist-up eyecups and a built-in 1/4-20 rotatable port for glassing from a tripod.

How It Compares

The 15x56 is the long-range end of the BX-5 Santiam HD line — 56mm objectives, a 77 m field of view at 1,000 m (231 ft at 1,000 yds) and 1,276 g (45 oz), which makes it a tripod binocular rather than a neck-carried one; the built-in 1/4-20 rotatable port is there for exactly that. If you want the same class of glass in something you can hold and walk with, the BX-5 Santiam HD 10x50 at 893 g or the BX-5 Santiam HD 10x42 at 689 g are the sensible alternatives, both with a wider field. Browse all binoculars, or see the full Leupold range.

Ideal For

  • Long spells glassing open hill for red deer, on a tripod through the built-in 1/4-20 rotatable port
  • Range spotting, where 15x on 56mm objectives reaches further than anything you can hold freehand
  • Night fox and vermin spotting from a fixed, supported position
  • General observation where 1,276 g (45 oz) on a tripod is no obstacle

Key Features

  • Glass: Professional-Grade Optical System with phase-coated BaK4 roof prisms for bright, high-contrast glassing
  • Coatings: DiamondCoat 2 on the exterior lens surfaces plus the Guard-ion hydrophobic coating, which sheds rain and fingerprints
  • Optics: 15x magnification on 56mm objectives, 77 m field of view at 1,000 m (231 ft at 1,000 yds)
  • Eyecups: Twist-up, giving 18 mm of eye relief, so spectacle wearers can wind them flat and keep the full field
  • Housing: Open-bridge magnesium chassis, rubber-armoured, 100% waterproof and fog-proof
  • Focus: Close focus 3.0 m (9.8 ft), interpupillary adjustment 56–74 mm
  • Mount: Built-in 1/4-20 rotatable port for sustained glassing from a tripod

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 15x56 the right format for UK stalking?Only from a tripod or a solid rest. At 15x and 1,276 g (45 oz) the BX-5 Santiam HD 15x56 is not a freehand binocular — it is for sitting behind and picking apart a hillside, using the built-in 1/4-20 rotatable port, and the 77 m field at 1,000 m (231 ft at 1,000 yds) reflects that.

Will the BX-5 Santiam HD 15x56 work with spectacles?Eye relief is 18 mm and the eyecups twist up and down, so you can wind them flat, keep your spectacles on and still see the full 77 m field at 1,000 m (231 ft at 1,000 yds).

Will it stand up to British weather? The BX-5 Santiam HD 15x56 has a rubber-armoured open-bridge magnesium chassis and is 100% waterproof and fog-proof, and the Guard-ion coating sheds rain and fingerprints from the exterior lens surfaces.

Can it be used on a tripod?Yes — the BX-5 Santiam HD 15x56 has a built-in 1/4-20 rotatable port, which is worth using for long spells glassing one hillside.

How does it compare with the 10x50?The BX-5 Santiam HD 10x50 is 383 g lighter at 893 g (31.5 oz), gives a much wider 101 m field at 1,000 m and can be used freehand. The 15x56 reaches considerably further but needs support.

Is this genuine Leupold stock?Yes — factory-new Leupold stock dispatched from the UK.
