Description

The SIG Sauer ZULU10 HDX 10x50 Binoculars in Flat Dark Earth, part number SOZ10002, are the low-light specialist of the ZULU10 line, holding 10x magnification on 50mm objectives for a 5mm exit pupil — the largest in SIG's whole binocular range — over a 6.5-degree field of view (approximately 114 m at 1,000 m). It is the model for night fox and vermin spotting and for the last twenty minutes of legal light.

Abbe-Koenig roof prisms carry HDX™ GLASS with LENSARMOR™, LENSHIELD™ and SPECTRACOAT™ coatings — SpectraCoat anti-reflection layers, LensArmor scratch-resistant outer surfaces and the LenShield hydrophobic coating. Twist-up eye cups give 17.3mm of eye relief, the longest in the ZULU10 line, with +/- 4 of dioptre adjustment and interpupillary distance from 56mm to 75mm. The rubber-armoured metal chassis is IPX-7 waterproof and fog-proof rated, measures approximately 198 x 59 x 150 mm (7.80 x 2.34 x 5.90 in), weighs 1,048 g (2.31 lbs) and focuses to 2.5 m; it is tripod mount capable, and an EVA moulded carrying case and neck strap are supplied.

How It Compares

The ZULU10 HDX 10x50 is the low-light specialist of the ZULU10 line. It keeps the 10x magnification of the 10x42 and its near-identical 6.5-degree field, but the 50mm objectives push the exit pupil to 5mm — the largest in the whole SIG binocular range — which is what matters when your eye is dilated at last light. Eye relief is also the longest of the ZULU10 models at 17.3mm. The penalty is a little over 100 g of extra weight and a longer body. For more reach on the same chassis, the 12x50 is identical in size and weight; the 15x56 is the long-range model.

Ideal For

  • Night fox and vermin spotting, where a 5mm exit pupil is the single most useful figure on the page
  • Deer stalking in the last twenty minutes of legal light
  • Spectacle wearers — 17.3mm eye relief is the longest in the ZULU10 line
  • General observation where light gathering matters more than carrying weight

Key Features

  • Prism: Abbe-Koenig roof prism — the straight-through prism form SIG reserves for the ZULU10, rather than the Schmidt-Pechan design used elsewhere in the range
  • Glass: HDX™ GLASS, LENSARMOR™, LENSHIELD™, SPECTRACOAT™ — SpectraCoat anti-reflection coatings, LensArmor scratch-resistant outer surfaces and the LenShield hydrophobic coating
  • Magnification: 10x with 50mm objectives
  • Eye Relief: 17.3mm with twist-up eye cups
  • Housing: Metal chassis under rubber armour in Flat Dark Earth, IPX-7 waterproof and fog-proof rated
  • Focus: Dioptre adjustment range of +/- 4; interpupillary distance 56mm to 75mm
  • Mount: Tripod mount capable — adapter sold separately

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Abbe-Koenig prism and why does it matter? It is a straight-through roof prism design that, unlike the Schmidt-Pechan prisms used elsewhere in the SIG range, does not rely on a mirrored surface to fold the light path. SIG uses it only in the ZULU10, which is the reason these are longer in the body than the ZULU8.

How does the ZULU10 differ from the ZULU8?Prism design and chassis. The ZULU8 HDX 10x42 uses Schmidt-Pechan prisms in a shorter, lighter body; the ZULU10 uses Abbe-Koenig prisms in a longer metal chassis and sits above it in the range.

Is it waterproof?Yes — IPX-7 waterproof and fog-proof rated, over a metal chassis with rubber armour.

Does it have image stabilisation? No. For stabilised binoculars, look at the ZULU6 HDX and ZULU6 HDX PRO models.

Can I mount it on a tripod?Yes — it is tripod mount capable, though the adapter is sold separately.

Where can I see the rest of the range? The full SIG Sauer line-up sits in our binoculars collection.
