Holosun Optics Buyer's Guide: Which Holosun Is Right for You?

Holosun has shaken up the optics world by packing premium features into sights at accessible prices — but the range is huge, with model numbers that can baffle newcomers. This buyer's guide decodes the Holosun line-up so you can pick the right optic with confidence.

Understanding Holosun model numbers

Once you know the pattern, the names make sense:

  • HS vs HE prefix: HS = standard (usually red); HE = elite, often with a green emitter or upgraded glass. “GR” in the code means green dot.
  • 500-series: pistol-size optics (e.g. 507C, 407C, 507K, 407K).
  • C vs K: “C” models use the larger RMR-pattern footprint (full-size); “K” models are smaller, on the RMSc footprint for carry.
  • EPS / SCS / AEMS / ARO: enclosed and specialist models (see below).
  • X2 / X3: the generation of the optic.

Holosun for pistols

For a full-size or duty pistol, the 507C X2 is the do-it-all favourite (solar, Shake Awake, multi-reticle). For carry, the smaller 507K / 407K or the fully sealed EPS Carry suit slim slides. Browse all Holosun pistol red dots, and check your fit with our footprint guide.

Holosun for rifles

For AR-15s and carbines, the HS510C (open reflex, big window), the daylight-bright AEMS, and the compact ARO are standouts. Many pair perfectly with a Holosun HM3X magnifier. See all Holosun rifle red dots.

Enclosed and specialist models

If you want a sealed emitter for all-weather reliability, the EPS (full-size) and EPS Carry, the rugged 509T and the solar-charging SCS (slide-specific) are excellent. Browse enclosed red dot sights.

Red, green or gold?

Most Holosun optics come in red or green, with some gold options. Green can appear brighter in daylight — see our green vs red guide. Browse Holosun green dots.

Key Holosun features explained

  • Shake Awake: powers down when still, wakes instantly on movement.
  • Solar Failsafe: a solar panel powers the dot in bright light and backs up the battery.
  • Multi-Reticle System (MRS): switch between a dot and a circle-dot at the press of a button.
