Description

The Leupold BX-4 Range HD Gen 2 TBR/W 10x42 Rangefinding Binoculars in Gray, part number 185699, combine a 10x42 Elite Optical System binocular with a Class 1M laser that ranges deer to 1,300 yards (approximately 1,189 m) and reflective targets to 4,000 yards (approximately 3,658 m) — enough to judge and range a beast across a corrie without carrying a second instrument.

TBR/W returns ballistically compensated ranges and wind holds, with Bow Mode, Last Target and Archer's Advantage also on the menu, all shown on a red OLED display. The 6.2-degree field of view — approximately 111 m at 1,000 m (334 ft at 1,000 yd) — comes with a generous 17mm of eye relief, a 4.2mm exit pupil and three interchangeable Form-Fit eyecups in winged, medium and low. The waterproof and fogproof Gray body is 150mm (5.9 in) long and 1,049 g (37 oz), runs a CR2 for approximately 3,000 actuations, focuses to approximately 4 m and carries a built-in 1/4-20 rotatable tripod adapter.

How It Compares

The BX-4 Range HD Gen 2 TBR/W 10x42 is the current-generation rangefinding binocular in Leupold's BX-4 line, and the sensible middle of the six-model range. Against the original BX-4 Range HD 10x42 it ranges considerably further — 4,000 yards reflective against 2,600, and 1,300 yards on deer against 1,100 — while shedding weight, at 1,049 g against 1,106 g, and gaining the three interchangeable Form-Fit eyecups. Against its own sibling the Gen 2 12x50, this 10x42 keeps a wider 6.2-degree field and a much more generous 17mm of eye relief, at the cost of reach on deer. Above it sits the BX-6 Range HD 4DOF 10x42, which adds the Hornady 4DOF ballistic calculator, Bluetooth and GPS pinning.

Ideal For

  • Hill stalking where beasts are ranged and judged across a corrie before any approach is made
  • Night fox and vermin control over open fields, where an accurate range at distance decides whether the shot is taken
  • Woodland and mixed-ground stalking that needs one instrument rather than a binocular and a rangefinder
  • Bow hunters and archery practice, where Bow Mode and Archer's Advantage give an angle-compensated range

Key Features

  • Ranging: Maximum 4,000 yards (approx. 3,658 m) on reflective targets, 2,000 yards (approx. 1,829 m) on trees and 1,300 yards (approx. 1,189 m) on deer, with a 12-yard minimum
  • Ballistics: TBR/W for ballistically compensated ranges and wind holds, plus Bow Mode, Last Target and Archer's Advantage, which calculates angle-compensated ranges from arrow weight, velocity and peep height
  • Display: Red OLED display
  • Glass: Elite Optical System — excellent dawn-to-dusk light transmission and elite-level glare reduction, over a 6.2-degree field with 17mm of eye relief
  • Eyecups: Three interchangeable Form-Fit eyecups — winged to block stray light, medium for general comfort, low for spectacle wearers
  • Electronics: CR2 battery giving approximately 3,000 actuations; Class 1M laser
  • Mount: Built-in 1/4-20 rotatable tripod adapter

Frequently Asked Questions

How far will it range?Leupold rates it to 4,000 yards (approximately 3,658 metres) on reflective targets, 2,000 yards on trees and 1,300 yards (approximately 1,189 metres) on deer. Mist, rain and heavy cover all reduce that in practice.

What is the difference between this and the original BX-4 Range HD?The original 10x42 ranges to 2,600 yards reflective and 1,100 on deer, weighs 1,106 g and has fixed eyecups. This Gen 2 reaches further, weighs 1,049 g and adds three interchangeable Form-Fit eyecups.

Does it work for bow hunting?Yes — Bow Mode uses a TRIG function and is accurate to approximately 70 yards for angles under 20 degrees, and Archer's Advantage calculates ballistic angle-compensated ranges from arrow weight, velocity and peep height.

Will it work with spectacles?Yes. Eye relief is 17mm and the low Form-Fit eyecups are supplied for spectacle wearers.

Can it be tripod-mounted?Yes — a 1/4-20 rotatable tripod adapter is built in.

Where can I see the rest of the range? The full Leupold line-up is on our Leupold collection page.
