Description

The SIG Sauer ZULU6 HDX 20x42 Image Stabilised Binoculars in Flat Dark Earth, part number SOZ6WP20, carry the longest reach in the standard ZULU6 HDX line — 20x magnification on 42mm objectives — and only work hand-held because of the OIS™ Optical Image Stabilization behind them. The 3.3-degree field of view (approximately 58 m at 1,000 m) makes this a glass for examining ground you have already found: counting and judging deer across a glen, or picking apart a hedgerow at distance.

Stabilisation offers two user-selectable modes, Scan Mode for sweeping ground and Target Mode, which increases stability by up to 50%, running on a single AA cell for 30 hours. HDX™ GLASS is completed by LENSARMOR™, LENSHIELD™ and SPECTRACOAT™ coatings through Schmidt-Pechan roof prisms, with 15mm of eye relief behind twist-up eye cups, +/- 3 of dioptre adjustment and interpupillary distance from 56mm to 70mm. The Flat Dark Earth chassis is IPX-7 waterproof and fog-proof rated, measures approximately 180 x 70 x 120 mm (7.08 x 2.75 x 4.72 in), weighs 621 g (21.90 oz) and focuses to 4.0 m (13.1 ft); it is tripod mount capable, and a foam carrying case and neck strap are supplied.

How It Compares

The ZULU6 HDX 20x42 is the highest magnification in the standard ZULU6 HDX line and only makes sense because of the stabilisation — twenty power freehand is otherwise unusable. Field of view narrows to 3.3 degrees against the 3.8 degrees of the 12x42 and 16x42, so it is a tool for examining ground you have already found rather than for finding it. Weight, body, AA battery and 30-hour runtime are identical to the 16x42. If you want this much magnification with a 50mm objective and SIG's OmniScan stabilisation, the ZULU6 HDX PRO 18x50 gathers more light at last light.

Ideal For

  • Counting and judging deer across a glen where you cannot get closer
  • Long-range vermin spotting over open fields from a fixed vantage point
  • Habitat and wildlife survey work where detail matters more than field of view
  • Anyone who would otherwise carry a spotting scope and tripod up the hill

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 20x really hand-holdable?With OIS engaged, yes. Scan Mode steadies the image while you move across ground and Target Mode increases stability by up to 50% when you settle on something. Without stabilisation, 20x freehand is not a serious proposition.

What do I give up against the 16x42?Field of view. This is 3.3 degrees against 3.8 degrees on the 16x42, so it is slower to find things in. Body, weight, battery and runtime are otherwise the same.

Will it work with spectacles?Eye relief is 15mm with twist-up eye cups, and the dioptre adjusts +/- 3. The 12x42 has the longest eye relief in the range at 17mm if that is your priority.

How long does a battery last? One AA cell gives 30 hours of runtime.

Can it be tripod mounted?Yes, it is tripod mount capable — the adapter is sold separately.

Where can I see the rest of the range? The full SIG Sauer line-up sits in our binoculars collection.
