Description

The SIG Sauer ZULU6 HDX 12x42 Image Stabilised Binoculars in Flat Dark Earth, part number SOZ6WP12, sit in the middle of SIG's 42mm stabilised trio and are the most usable of them freehand, giving 12x magnification on 42mm objectives with OIS™ Optical Image Stabilization and the longest eye relief in the ZULU6 HDX line at 17mm — a hill-stalking glass you can judge a beast with and still carry all day at 610 g (21.50 oz).

Stabilisation runs in two user-selectable modes, Scan Mode for sweeping ground and Target Mode, which increases stability by up to 50%, on a single AA cell good for 30 hours. HDX™ GLASS is completed by LENSARMOR™, LENSHIELD™ and SPECTRACOAT™ coatings through Schmidt-Pechan roof prisms, over a 3.8-degree field of view (approximately 66 m at 1,000 m). The Flat Dark Earth chassis is IPX-7 waterproof and fog-proof rated, measures approximately 180 x 70 x 120 mm (7.08 x 2.75 x 4.72 in) and focuses to 4 m (13.1 ft); it is tripod mount capable, and a foam carrying case and neck strap are supplied.

How It Compares

The ZULU6 HDX 12x42 is the middle ground of SIG SAUER's 42mm stabilised trio and the most usable of them freehand. It has the longest eye relief in the whole ZULU6 HDX line at 17mm, which matters if you wear spectacles, and its 42mm objectives gather considerably more light than the compact 10x30. Against the 16x42 and 20x42, which share the same body and battery, the 12x gives up reach but keeps a picture that is easier to hold and quicker to acquire. If you glass from a fixed position and want a 50mm objective with SIG's OmniScan stabilisation, look at the ZULU6 HDX PRO 14x50.

Ideal For

  • Hill stalking where you need to judge a beast at distance but still carry the binocular all day
  • Spectacle wearers — 17mm of eye relief is the most generous in the ZULU6 HDX range
  • Night fox and vermin spotting, where 42mm objectives and a stabilised image work together at dusk
  • General observation and birding at ranges where 10x runs out of detail

  • Eye Relief: 17mm — the longest in the ZULU6 HDX line, with twist-up eye cups

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I hold 12x steady without a tripod? That is exactly what the stabilisation is for. Scan Mode steadies the image while you sweep ground; Target Mode increases stability by up to 50% once you are on the beast. Freehand 12x without stabilisation is hard work — with it, it is comfortable.

Is it any good for spectacle wearers? It is the best of the range for that. Eye relief is 17mm, the longest in the ZULU6 HDX line, and the eye cups twist down so you can get the full field with glasses on.

How does it differ from the 16x42?The 16x42 shares the same body, AA battery and 30-hour runtime, and the same 3.8-degree field, but reaches further at the cost of shorter 14mm eye relief. The 12x42 is the easier binocular to use for long periods.

What battery does it use?A single AA cell, giving 30 hours of runtime.

Is it waterproof?Yes — IPX-7 waterproof and fog-proof rated, with LensArmor and LenShield coatings on the exterior glass.

Where can I see the rest of the range? The full SIG Sauer line-up sits in our binoculars collection.
